The Meme Themed Dream Team

Ooo baby what a concept. The world revolves around one thing nowadays - memes. For those of you who need a refreshed, or are just above the age of 23, a meme is… well I can’t really explain it. It’s basically an internet sensation that’s some sort of ironic joke. They’re everywhere recently, including in the association. This is my meme dream team. One player at every position who is an absolute and utter… meme.

PG - Alex Caruso - Los Angeles Lakers

What an absolute stud. This guy is the perfect mix of a white boy who has no business hooping, and a f*cking baller. It just makes it even better that he plays with LeBron James. Whenever Bron hypes him up the internet eats it up. The best part is that he knows he’s a meme. Every time he puts something on Instagram, comments, or just makes a basket, SportsCenter puts it on their highlight reel on every major platform. This guy was the inspiration for this entire article. If you’ve never heard of him, I highly recommend looking up ‘Alex Caruso meme’ in google. Hell, look him up on Instagram and find all the photoshopped pictures of him with Jordan, Kobe, and Shaq.

SG - JR Smith - Unemployment Office

No disrespect meant with the team name, it’s just the funniest thing I could think of. Ah, the Henny God himself. This dude’s had way too many moments that make him deserving of this team. Remember when he decided to take the ball back to half court instead of putting it back up? He cost LeBron a better chance at another ring, but gave everyone else something to laugh at. I don’t know if this guy’s always high, drunk, or just a beast. He has tattoos all over his body, and needs to jack up every stupid shot possible for this meme dream team.

SF - Lance Stephenson - Liaoning Flying Leopards

We got to go overseas for this one, so I guess you should call this the basketball meme dream team at this point, instead of just the NBA. Just like JR, Lance has brought so much meme potential. Blowing in LeBron’s ear, playing his air guitar, and even leaving the league to drop buckets in China. What a guy. I can’t wait for some NBA to give this guy a chance again, because God I hope it happens again. Not to mention his recent beef with Jimmy Butler (look it up). They are supposed to go one-on-one soon, and if Lance wins, the internet will go wild.

PF - JaVale McGee - Los Angeles Lakers

Okay, so maybe he’s a center, but how can I not include this dude on the team. I’m pretty sure he himself inspired the entire concept of Shaqtin’ a Fool. There was a solid five year stretch where he couldn’t step on the court without doing something dumb. Whether it was missing an open dunk, tackling an opponent by accident, or just being himself, he was showing up somewhere in the headlines for the wrong reasons. He’s cooled off in the past couple years, managing to play some really good NBA basketball, but once you go meme, you can never go back.

C - Boban Marjanovic - Dallas Mavericks

Oh Bobi. What a guy. If you’ve seen any videos of him on the internet, you know what I’m talking about. He used to have his own show with ex-teammate with Tobias Harris, the Bobi and Tobi show, and it was great. The two are genuinely best friends which is amazing to see. I have to say, though, out of everything I’ve mentioned, the one thing you have to see is this guy trying to dance. There’s another video out there of Tobias trying to teach Boban how to dance, and he freaking kills it. I’ve never had more love for a guy in my entire life than in that moment. Not to mention there’s something funny about an absurdly tall guy just being himself.

Honorable Mention - Tacko Fall - Boston Celtics

Remember when I said there was something funny about a guy being overly tall, well here’s another great example. He’s just a rookie, so I couldn’t start him, but Tacko might have the greatest meme potential in all of basketball. Besides the fact that he’s f*cking 7’5”, just his existence is funny. I mean, the guy’s name is Tacko for God’s sake. As a dude from Boston, I swear to God if the Celtics don’t run a Tacko Tuesday fan night then I’m going to riot.
