3 takeaways from the Boston Celtics 113-107 win vs. the Charlotte Hornets

Jayson Tatum had 19 points, 6 rebounds, and a game-high 9 assists as the Boston Celtics won their third straight game.

1. Brown and Tatum growing as playmakers

The two stars of this team are blossoming in their ability to make plays for their teammates. The Celtics had 31 assists on 42 made field goals and 15 of those came from Tatum (9) and Brown (6). The C’s only become more confident offensively when the stars are willing to move the ball.

2. DRTG since Christmas

I will try not to bore you with this takeaway, but since this team has gotten relatively healthy, they have been really engaged on the defensive end of the floor. The wing defenders are much more aggressive chasing opponents off the three-point line and Robert Williams is really making shooters nervous. Did you catch his block at the three-point line? The young big man made great play without fouling the shooter late in the game.

The confidence Boston is playing with on defense is exciting to watch and making me believe that they can make a serious run up the standings in the Eastern Conference!

3. Trade deadline

This is that time of year when everyone is involved in trade rumor after trade rumor. The one thing that most of us thought was that if this team can get and stay healthy, they could be a tough out in the East. The Celtics are better because of the moves that were made (Dennis Schroder and Josh Richardson for Carsen Edwards, Tremont Waters, Al Horford and Enes Freedom for Tacko Fall).

If any moves are made, one can only hope that it keeps things going in the right direction. It is a big risk if Schroder leaves and you get nothing in return, as he has shown his value throughout the season with all of the injuries/COVID issues. Richardson and Schroder have taken minutes away from Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard, but that is why you have guys on the bench who can step in when their number is called. Be smart Brad Stevens!

Boston is back in action on Friday as they head to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Pistons. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
