4 takeaways from the Boston Celtics’ Game 2 win over the Brooklyn Nets

Jaylen Brown scored 22 points to lead seven Boston Celtics in double figures as Boston overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat the Brooklyn Nets. Here are some takeaways from the Game 2 victory:

1. This team is more than Jayson Tatum

On a night when All-Star Jayson Tatum struggled with his shot (5-for-16), his supporting cast let him know that he is not alone. The Celtics got balanced scoring from Tatum (19), Al Horford (16), Grant Williams (17), Daniel Theis (15), DPOY Marcus Smart (12), and Payton Pritchard (10). Watching this team on offense, it is hard to believe that at one time they struggled mightily in late-game situations. They have clearly addressed that weakness and it has earned them a 2-0 series lead against the Nets.

2. Jaylen Brown is getting it done

22 points on 9-of-18 shooting, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals in 39 minutes of floor time. That’s what Brown can do for you! JB has figured out when to attack the paint and when to pull up for a jumper. In addition to his defensive duties, he has really become a legitimate three-level scorer and playmaker. This is one of the reasons why this team has improved by leaps and bounds and why Celtics faithful have visions of a title this season. Keep it going, Mr. Brown!

3. They can play well together

Brown and Tatum together tonight put up 41 points, 10 rebounds, and 16 assists! Al Horford and Daniel Theis together put up 31 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals! Not a bad night’s work for two players who are not supposed to be able to hold it down while Robert Williams is out. This is a TEAM! Anything else is uncivilized!

4. This defense is legit

How good is the Boston Celtics’ defense? They held Kevin Durant to zero made field goals in the second half. He was 4-for-17 for the game. Unheard of! They also held Kyrie Irving to just 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting after he went for 39 in Game 1. Credit to the Celtics coaching staff for not allowing these two lethal weapons to get going tonight. What an effort by Boston, led by the DPOY Marcus Smart!

This series now takes a ride down 95 South to New York where Brooklyn will try to get back in this first-round best-of-seven series, as they host Game 3 on Saturday at 7:30 pm on ESPN.
