3 takeaways from the Boston Celtics 126-120 win vs. the Brooklyn Nets

Jayson Tatum scored 54 points on Sunday afternoon, outdueling Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving as the Boston Celtics took down the Brooklyn Nets for their third win in a row. Here are some takeaways.

3 takeaways from the Boston Celtics 126-120 win vs. the Brooklyn Nets

1. Jayson Tatum is All-NBA

Tatum has made a habit of shining brightly in nationally televised games and Sunday was no exception. He put all three levels of his game on display and he abused the Nets at every turn. Here’s a look at his shooting splits:

  • 16-30 FG (8-15 3PT), 14-17 FT in 41 minutes of work

The young superstar had 34 of his points in the second half. Momentum kept shifting back and forth throughout the afternoon, as the game was clearly going to come down to what team made the best plays at the end. While Tatum made shot after shot, he also made the right passes at the right times. If Jayson Tatum does not make any of the All-NBA teams this season, there should be a federal investigation!

2. Welcome back Jaylen Brown

In his first game back since injuring his ankle against the Atlanta Hawks, Brown scored 21 points in 35 minutes of action. This included a huge three-point shot and two free throws with under 40 seconds left in the game. It was good to see him shoot the ball with confidence and it did not look like he was playing gingerly.

3. Bench production was down

While the bench got some quality minutes (63 minutes among the four players - Grant Williams, Daniel Theis, Derrick White, and Payton Pritchard), they had just 14 points on Sunday. Tatum had it going, so in this game, there may not have been much need for them. But if this is going to be the group that Udoka uses going forward, hopefully, they can put up around 22-25 points for the Celtics as this team heads into the playoffs.

The Celtics are off until Wednesday when they head to Buzz City to take on the Charlotte Hornets. Game-time is at 7:00 p.m.
