Boston rode All-Star starter Jayson Tatum’s 25-point second-half outburst and the team’s suddenly stout defense to their eighth straight victory on Sunday. Here are some takeaways from the win.

Takeaways from the Boston Celtics win vs. the Atlanta Hawks

1. What more can you say about Jayson Tatum?

After struggling through a rough first half, Tatum caught fire after the break. He scored 16 third-quarter points, leading the Celtics to a 42-23 period that turned a 55-45 halftime deficit into an 87-78 advantage. Tatum also collected 10 rebounds, 3 assists, two blocks, and a steal to cap off an awesome Super Bowl Sunday performance.

2. Derrick White paying dividends

In his second game as a Celtic, Derrick White came up big again. He scored 14 points in 29 minutes of action. While he struggled with his three-point shot (2-for-10), White collected four rebounds and five assists to go along with two steals and a block. So far, he is looking like a good trade-deadline acquisition for Boston!

3. Phenomenal second-half defensive effort

After allowing the Atlanta Hawks to score 55 points in the first half and take a 10-point lead into the locker room, Boston’s defense must have collected itself and said enough is enough. Trae Young scored to open the third quarter, but Boston then went on a 12-0 run fueled by their defense to tie the game at 57.

The Celtics made offense difficult for the Hawks, allowing only 38 points in the rest of the second half while the Boston offense put up 60 points! Awesome effort!

4. Better on the boards again

Led by Robert Williams’ 14 rebounds and Tatum’s 10, the Celtics won the reboundT battle 54-48. Boston also got nine boards from Jaylen Brown (17 points).

This team is using its collective efforts to battle on the glass night in and night out during this winning streak. Rebounding is all about desire, and right now the Celtics are displaying that and the results are showing up in the win column!

The Celtics go on the road on Tuesday to Philadelphia to take on Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers. (James Harden will not be participating). The game will be televised nationally on TNT at 7:30 p.m.
