Jayson Tatum's 53-Point Game and Celtics Players vs the Media with Adam Taylor
JAYSON TATUM 50-PIECE
Jayson Tatum exploded against the Timberwolves, notching a career-high 53 points. He added 10 rebounds and four assists to that total on what was one of the best performances of his career. Tatum also managed to shoot 16-25 from the field and 6-10 from deep.
He is the first Celtic since Isaiah Thomas to score this much in a game, and the first since Larry Bird to do so in a regular-season game. In both his and Brad Stevens’ postgame interviews, Tatum drew comparisons to both of these players. Stevens went on to say that, just like Thomas, Tatum “wouldn’t let us lose.” Tatum would then go on to say that it “is an honor” to be compared to someone as legendary as Bird.
CELTICS VS. THE MEDIA
Another storyline in recent weeks has been various Celtics plates making statements regarding media members’ comments towards them. Guys such as Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, and Tristan Thompson.
Smart called out specific media members who were commenting on his ability to defend. Brown would go on to say that the Celtics are sick of hearing that sort of stuff in the media. Both guys seemed fairly upset at the criticism they had been receiving.
Thompson took a much more direct approach, calling out The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor by name. O’Connor made a report on his podcast, The Mismatch, that there were some internal issues relating to Thompson’s relationship with various teammates. Both Brown and Kemba Walker spoke out against this report on Twitter as soon as it happened.
